For the most part I enjoy and agree with your succinct explanations of various grammar topics, but we do not use reflexive pronouns for emphasis, and your example sentence would likely never be uttered by a native speaker. Also, herself in the translation would be la profesora.

Asistirse is used with plural people who attend to/pay attention to one another.

I studied Spanish in high school & college. I read and wrote Spanish well, but was so stressed and self conscious about speaking it. So much so that my grades in college suffered because my native speaking professor could not understand why I would do well in my reading and writing assignments. But, in class, where we were required to only speak Spanish, I said next to nothing and when forced to speak was a fumbling embarrassed idiot. In my adult life I have vacationed in Spanish speaking locations but still avoided speaking Spanish whenever possible. I started pimsleur because it stressed speaking and I am so glad that I did. A short time after I started pimsleur, I started dating someone from Colombia and I am getting over my fear of speaking Spanish. Much of it due to the pimsleur method. I am using google translator less and less and my boyfriend and I can have basic conversations without it now. Needless to say I am very motivated to keep going. I am super grateful to this method. I had started and stopped numerous times with fluent U and Babbel and it just seemed like the same old same old. I know my previous education is helping me understand what I am saying more, but the pimsleur method has helped me gain a confidence and mindset to be able to think in sentences and not in words. I personally think it is the best complement to having gone through other programs and I feel it would be a great place to start as well. As with anything we learn, not any one thing will give us all we need to know about a topic or skill, but this is a great base to continue from.

The courses you mentioned our kind of gimmicky. You're not going to learn much with Duolingo other than asking for the time or where the bathroom is. Seriously, are you ever able to really achieve fluency with this app? I'm talking about being able to watch the news, and speak with friends and not have to think about words. One of the best that you didn't mention is a free one. Foreign Service Institute Spanish takes you advanced levels that blows the other ones away. Granted it's a bit monotonous, old, and drill heavy, but if you do the entire course, you are going to be amazed at how much you can speak and how much you can understand. These other ones are just gimmicks. Assimil and Living Language also top picks.

This is a great article! Two things. 1.) If you don’t have Netflix, VIX is a Spanish streaming app that’s free. I’ve been watching this show called Primeval: New World. 2.) The aforementioned show is great to watch in Spanish. There aren’t any subtitles, but there’s so much action that it’s pretty easy to know what’s going on. And I use the fandom site at the end of every episode to pick up anything I missed. Hope this helps anyone who sees this (:
